From Art to Marketing to Beauty

I was born in Trinidad in 1995, quickly I displayed interest in the arts, I would always draw and paint, although at that time my talents weren't developed I thought I was a little Picasso and I knew deep within where my passion lied. At the age of 15 I was introduced to sculpting when I visited a Jackie Hinkson art exhibition at SoftBox Art Gallery in Port- of- Spain and quickly I fell in love with that form of expression, there was an indescribable beauty about his sculptures, the way each piece had a life of its own and they all told such beautiful stories. The only problem at this time was Jackie worked with wood, and CXC at that time didn't allow it and my school didn't teach it. So I decided that I would work with clay.

I sought the required tools and got a local artist in Chaguaramas to teach me the techniques required, and within a few months these visions, my art, came to life through the means of clay carving. Whilst I always had an interest for sculpting, I also painted and drew. Back then I always imagined that my bachelors would have been in Art, but after high school I started business school. Right after turning 20 I graduated with my bachelors in marketing with honors, and soon started working in the bank, that didn't last too long because it didn't quite fit my artistic personality.

After turning 21 I decided I would leave the bank and pursue my masters specializing in marketing, and even then, though I was doing all these great things at such a young age and I was so driven and motivated, my love for art still lived on. And one day while I was applying my makeup, I realized that, the way I painted on my foundations, blended my eyeshadows, added highlight to my high points to attract light and sculpted and contoured my face was art in its own form. My brushes and mediums were different, but the techniques remained the same, and that is how my love for makeup and all things beauty began.

My perspective changed and I viewed my body as my canvas, I was amazed by how makeup and the right accessories can transform a person from basic to "boujee" bougie and boost one's confidence level immediately.

Soon after Youtube became my holy grail teaching me all these amazing tricks and beauty hacks to achieve down to the perfect wing and flawless, oilless foundation base, and my bestie and I would have makeup "limes" where we'd go over to each other's houses and sit for hours trying out new products and doing our makeup just for the fun of it.

Through that process of trial and error my best friend and I were able to learn so much and now I am going to use this blog to share insight into this glamorous, intoxicating, captivating sphere the makeup industry has created. Reviewing products we loved, hated and simply cant live without. My target audience is the mass public, both male and female, basically anyone who's interested in makeup, beauty hacks and everything beauty.

For me makeup has become and art, a form of self expression and it gives me the confidence I require when marketing myself. Let's use this blog to create a community where beauty connoisseurs can share their inspirations, thoughts, tips and beauty hacks from experience, to make applying makeup even more enjoyable.  As Huda Kattan said,

"Beauty is about giving power to women, let them express who they want to be no matter who they are, and play around with trends and situations."

So lets be beautiful and empowered and express our innermost creative sides.
